Magless

SAVE THE DATE!  MAGLESS, March 9, 2025

FUN FOR ALL MEMBERS—New and “Established”!!

What is Magless?

Think of Magless as a Glass Lover’s Cookie Exchange. A group of 20 artists exchange hand-made glass tiles in whatever technique they like, sized anywhere from 1” to 2” – square, rectangular, or any shape. They’re like refrigerator magnets without the actual magnet attached, hence “magLESS”. You pack them into sets and mail or deliver them to Weisser Glass Studio.  You will receive either via mail or in person, a set of 20+ different maglesses (with each person’s “recipe” - to continue with the cookie analogy – the firing schedule, the color, and type of glass, etc.).  We will meet in-person and virtually on March 9 to share our techniques. This meeting is often the best attended each year.

Important Dates

  • Jan. 26     Sign-up Deadline

  • Feb. 10     Deadline to ship maglesses to Weisser Glass Studio (4080 Howard Ave #B, Kensington, MD 20895)

  • Feb 17      Deadline to drop off maglesses to Weisser Glass Studio

  • Mar 9, 2 pmMagless Presentations in person and via Zoom at Weisser

As with last year, we are hoping to engage new members and are saving spaces just for them.  We would like buddies to work with new members, if they would like.  Let me know if you’re interested (leahslookingglass@gmail.com)

JUST WANT TO OBSERVE IN PERSON? We have 10 seats for observers. Email Leah Powell at leahpowellappraisals@gmail.com to reserve your space or be waitlisted.

Thinking ahead:

Use any glass technique:  fused, stained, blown, mosaic, cold worked, cast, etc.

Make it simple or complex.  Have fun with it.  Don’t be afraid to experiment!!

Maglesses don’t need to be identical but should have a unifying technique, color, etc.

Size:  roughly 1” – 2” (any shape).

Do not attach a magnet!  And please don’t share with others until after our meeting on March 9. Please don’t share your image/technique until after our meeting.

Where:  Weisser Glass Studio (4080 Howard Ave #B, Kensington, MD 20895), in person or virtually.  Please let us know if you will attend in person or virtually.  There is a box on the signup sheet to let us know.  We have a total limit of in-person spaces for 30 people (please sign up early to save your seat). To get on the list if you’re not making a magless and want to attend in person, send an email to Leah Powell at leahpowellappraisals@gmail.com, who manages the list and waitlist for in-person attendance.

NEW THIS YEAR: Signups and submissions (except for sending process images and the actual glass to share are all online on our website.  You can sign up, provide all your information (email, mailing address, etc.), enter your description for the presentation, and even mark that you have submitted your process photos—all through our website!
